ACTING
Although she has had an extensive career in music, Alexis decided in 2009 to take a break from writing songs to focus her energies on her acting career and become an actress, mainly in comedy. She is currently appearing as vacuous maneater, Samantha in ‘Persona’, the world’s first ever daily drama series app created entirely for the iPhone and has appeared in "The Man Who Married Himself" with Richard E Grant and Emilia Fox and in the film, "Will's Diaries", directed by Charis Orchard, as well as featuring in several worldwide commercials (Schweppes, Marks & Spencer, Niquitin etc...). and numerous theatre productions- 'It Started With A Touch', playing lesbian schoolteacher Fay at the Wimbledon Theatre and as Lady Macbeth in 'A Season Before The Tragedy Of Macbeth' at Camden People's Theatre, to excellent reviews:
"The excellent Alexis Strum, playing Lady Macbeth… her strength and poise gave her character some much needed gravitas …"- Chris Hislop, 'The Fringe Review', August 2010
Alexis is now an in demand actress who has recently completely her first LA based film and is soon to star in a French language short.
WRITING
Alexis is a prolific writer- when not songwriting, she is also developing a series of online comedy sketches and has a background in writing TV ideas for Endemol, a column for well known music website, ‘Popjustice' and in her teens, wrote and performed her own published poetry, becoming the youngest ever London SLAM poetry champion at just 17.
SONGWRITING
Alexis has written tracks for some high profile pop acts over the course of her career: "Still Standing" on singer, Kylie Minogue's album Body Language, "Nothing Good About This Goodbye" on Rachel Stevens' album Come and Get It , "Why Not Us?" for German girlband, Monrose, “It Could Be You” for Louis Walsh’s girlband, Wonderland (UK Top 10 album), as well as songs for Diana Vickers and Katie Waissel. She has a huge catalogue of songs, many of which were co-written with some of the world’s leading songwriters- Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams etc), Brian Higgins (Girls Aloud), Fernando Garibay (Lady GaGa). She has also written music for TV shows such as Ch4's 'The Inbetweeners'.
SINGING
Alexis is a singer with a considerable range. After graduating and spending a couple of years working odd jobs and performing here and there across London, she signed her first worldwide publishing deal with Mike Sault at Warner Chappell. She guest vocalled on tracks by Thrillseekers, Lange, and signed a small deal with Sony records, as the singer fronting a track with Gorillaz remixer, Ed Case before she then went on to sign solo worldwide recording contracts with Warner and Mercury records respectively. She built up a very strong presence online thanks to many appearances in the UK press, hailing her as, '“armed with a fresh, pure voice'”, The Daily Mail and “'This girl will be a big star'”, The News Of The World.
BO PEPPER
After deciding to leave her deal with Mercury records after her second attempt at releasing an album was thwarted, Alexis wanted to distance herself from her previous musical identity, and since she couldnt imagine ending her career as a singer, she started recording under an alias. Thus was born the indie pop band, Bo Pepper (2007-2009), for which she was the singer (calling herself 'Dolly') and songwriter, drafting in a series of session musicians.
Bo Pepper were known for their puppet-fronted videos, made by Paul Rowley at Penny Mix Films, which were an internet sensation, championed by the likes of Perez Hilton, The Sun's 'Bizarre' column and YouTube, gaining a huge worldwide fanbase and a US tour including a trip to play at SXSW. The first single, self-released in April 2008 on Alexis’ own 'Peppered Records' scored airplay spots on Radio 1 (Huw Stephens), Radio 2, 6Music, Channel 4 Radio and Virgin Radio/ Virgin Xtreme. Another track, "Buses," featured in an online Coca Cola advertisement, and featured on the "UK:ONE the New Music Collection - Coca-Cola Soundwave" digital album, available to purchase via iTunes.
In 2008, Bo Pepper graced the pages of The Sun, The Times, The Guardian, played at SXSW in Texas, supported Pete Doherty and Sparks.
During this time, She was personally asked by Robbie Williams to record the Martha Wainwright part on a cover of Rufus Wainwright's song, "April Fools". This has now been recorded but there are no plans to release this track as yet.
